THEN, I paid the extra money for the extended sensors software. They are working on that.Īfter I got the unit back, I checked it out and it worked great. Emailing one of the techs at the company, he says that their unit will read all BMW's up to and including the 2008 models, BUT not the E90's. I had to send the scanner unit back to the company for a upgrade. Īfter I picked up my 03 Zed (in Oct 07), I plugged it in but no joy. I bought my AutoEnginutiy ODB-II Scanner in 2005.
Srhutch wrote:This one states ECU's upto 08/2005.Īre all OBDII interfaces the same though, or do I need to obtain a BMW specific one? Just guessing, but as I have pre 2006 BMW's it matter My guess is after that date the Ebay vendors have been unable to copy the software.
Seems similar to the manuals and service guides that only go to around 2004.
Well 2006 was facelift time and given various things like lights are different and I assume the latest level of software these people have only covers up to certain date ECU, and other modules such as LCM. The other problem as mentioned is that most of the system only say up to 2004, I have seen 2006, but cant think why this date is so specific.
I'm not interested in re programming my ECU, just want the ability to program car features as required. I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has actually used an interface and carsoft software as to howe useful it is and does it actually work?Īs you say there is plenty of software on ebay, and I have an OBDII connector which is marked up as Opel (as used on my wifea Zafira), but I dont think I can use with the Z4 even though the OBDII is the standard. This is quite good for experts and technician.Cj10jeeper wrote:Depending upon how you feel about such things there seems to be plenty of Carsoft 6.5 software on Ebay that would likely work with the interfaces mentioned above. So INPA is well loaded to BMW ICOM A2+B+C diagnostic system, but you need to do some configuration work.
What a PITA, stay away from this solution! The black serial cable below only works on OBD1 cars like pre 2001 e39 and this will work for all K CAN (e36, e39, e46, e53, e63).īMW ICOM Rheingold not only comes with basic ISTA-D ISTA-P diagnostic & programming software, it comes with lots of engineering software, INPA, EDIABAS, WinKFP, NCS-expert, NCS-dummy etc. When you first got INPA, you have to run a carsoft test to “initiate” the lead every time. The scanner comes with INPA OBD, ADS interface and none ADS cable for all all systems (K-line and CAN-BUS) of BMW series and OBDII diagnostic system.ĬarSoftware interface can be modified to work with INPA, but it is not recommended. This is a interface contains four software of BMW scanner INPA K DCAN cable + BMW DASH E6x V2.1.0 + BMW Scanner V1.4.0 + BMW Scanner V2.10 cable.
Set up of this cable is straight forward, no drivers required. It works just fine on E46/E39 with either the round 20 pin connector under the bonnet or the OBD2 port in the drover’s footwell. This is a cheap interface & is readily available plus requires no modification. Here’s a picture of the Ediabas ADS interface: It works fine on the e36, e39 & e63 (note my e63 is pre-March 2007) from my personal experience. Unfortunately the ADS interface seems to be the hardest to get & most expensive of all the interfaces. Hera’s an image of what this cable looks like:Įdiabas ADS/OBD interface Serial Port cableĪs mentioned previously the ADS interface is a different protocol, if you don’t have an ADS interface with an e36 then what you’ll be able to read with a regular OBD cable is limited.
There are two versions of this utility, a fancy GUI & a MS DOS one.
However you will also need to install the K+D CAN utility, this allows you the ability to switch it from a K CAN device for pre-2007 cars (see list above) to a DCAN cable. This cable is a USB enabled device, again you will need to install the USB to serial drivers. This does 2001-on cars right up to & including 2011 cars (may be limited by the hookie software for cars after June 2008 on a diminishing basis as the car gets newer). With the USB K+D CAN type cables there are a few installation steps, drivers & a little software that you need to make them work properly. This is the current most used cable for INPA. Many FTDI FT232RL based cables can be modified to work with INPA software for BMW diagnosis.
